Information and Communications Technology (ICT) or rather known as Information Technology (IT) refers to the dealing of electronic computer and the software to process, transmit, store and convert information for large corporations. It is a study of the management of computer-based information systems.
The term has become familiar in today’s society. Over the decade, the rapid development of each corporation or organization requires IT professionals to help set up the management system. It has created lots of job opportunities for the graduates. In Malaysia itself, IT is fairly important and has contributed to one of nation’s most important project Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC).
Info tech originates from the combination of computer and communications technology. Generally, IT is commonly known as the use of computer and information as a whole.
IT professionals are responsible in storing information databases, engineering computer hardware, designing computer software, and also administration of the entire systems.
IT is the core that keeps the organization of corporation running. IT professionals may work as a game designer, programmer, software engineer, support specialist, electrical and electronic engineer and many more.
Computer game designers develop new computer games with the collaboration of artists, animators, producers and audio engineers. Computer programmer refers to a specialist who writes computer software. Software engineers are responsible in developing, operating and maintaining software.
Support specialist refers to individuals who assist and provide technical support for hardware, software and the entire system that keeps the corporation running. Electrical and electronic engineer deals with the application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism.
Malaysia’s MSC was conceptualized in 1996 as an initiative for ICT industry. MSC Malaysia focuses on multimedia and communications products, solutions, services and research and development. The development of MSC has created lots of job opportunities for local graduates.
Among some of the recognized IT programmes are available in Multimedia University (MMU), KDU, University Malaya, University Teknologi Malaysia and many more. Among some of the courses that are available in MMU are Master of Information Technology in Multimedia Computing, Master of IT, Master of Multimedia and many more. KDU offers diploma programmes such as computer studies and games technology.
